People from across Monmouthshire will be attending services for both Armistice Day, Friday, November 11, and Remembrance Sunday, November 13.

Armistice Day

On Armistice Day, at 11am at Monmouth Castle there will be the firing of the maroon rockets  to the mark the commencement and termination of the two minutes silence.

SR Arvans will be holding a service at the War Memorial in St Arvans Church, Chepstow at 11am.

Magor with Undy. 11am  Reverend Jeremy Harris and members of the Royal British Legion shall be in attendance at the Cenotaph, Magor Square, to observe a two minute silence as part of Armistice Day in memory of those who lost their lives fighting for their country.

Remembrance Sunday, November 13

St Denis Church, Llanishen will be having a Remembrance service at 9.30am.

The service this year will be especially remembering the women and girls who served in the Womens’ Land Army and Timber Corps, during World War 2. They were billeted in a hostel at Llanishen, which was converted to private bungalows in recent years but still bears the name “Land Army Row”.

Ceremonies in Rogiet: 10.30: Rogiet Methodist Church. 10.45am St Mary’s Church; 2pm at the War Memorial by the playing fields.

Monmouth’s Town Mayor, Cllr Alice Fletcher, will be attending  Monmouth’s Remembrance Sunday Parade.  County Councillor Catherine Fookes will be attending representing Monmouthshire County Council.

The parade steps off at 10.40am from the Shire Hall to arrive at the War Memorial in St James Square at 10:45am. Wreaths will be laid on behalf of Monmouthshire County Council. Following the two minutes’ silence, a service will follow at the Priory Church of St Mary the Virgin.

Caerwent is holding  a Remembrance Service at the Cross in the centre of the village at 11am.

The Royal British Legion and Caldicot Town Council Remembrance Sunday Services are 10.45am          Caldicot Cross Remembrance Service (wreath laying); 11.30am Church Service, St Mary’s, Caldicot; 4pm Caldicot Cross Sunset Service (wreath laying)

Usk Remembrance Day Service will take place at the Priory Church of St Mary at 10am followed by wreath laying at the war memorial where the two minutes silence will be observed, and the last post sounded by Usk Brass Band.

In attendance will be  Deputy Lieutenant, the Town Mayor, representatives of the local British Legion Police and Prison Services and Guide and Scout associations.

All are welcome back to the Royal British Legion Club for coffee and biscuits after the service.

St Michael’s Tintern is holding a Service on Leyton’s Field near Tintern Village Hall at 10.30 am

Magor with Undy Town Council service for  Remembrance Sunday to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts, shall be held at the cenotaph, Magor Square at 10.45am. Following the commemoration service in the Square there shall be further services at St Mary’s Church and Magor Baptist Chapel.  Magor Square will be closed to vehicular traffic between the hours of 7am and 12 noon.
