OFFICIALS from Infralec, part of South Wales Electricity, have apologised for power cuts in parts of Monmouth.
County Councillor Dick Cass wrote to the company to complain about disruptions to the power supply in the Dixton area last month.
Network controller Roy Edwards has now replied apologising for the disruption to local people.
"I fully appreciate the difficulties that occur when electricity supplies are suddenly cut off without warning," he said.
The incidents on September 27th and 28th were caused by trees falling against high voltage overhead conductors in the Buckholt area.
"We have recognised the problem and indeed had our tree cutting contractors working prior to the incidents in the area," said Mr Edwards. "Unfortunately the faults occurred before we were able to carry out all remedial work.
"Our contractors are still actively cutting trees in both the Dixton and Buckholt areas and work, apart from required planned shutdowns, will be complete in three weeks. The planned shutdowns will be required to cut trees lying above our conductors.
"Also this year we are reconfiguring our 11kV network to the North of the Narth whereby we will be able to split the existing circuit into two discreet sections. This will mean that supplies to the Dixton and Narth areas will have independent supplies and will eliminate the possibility of a fault in The Narth affecting the Dixton area. This work is proceeding and will be complete by the end of November."
Cllr Cass said he would be writing again to the company as the issue of power surges and smaller power cuts which affected clocks had still not been addressed.
