Plans have been submitted to Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) for the re-development of the Dixton clinic site, which has been standing vacant over five years.

The site, which stands within both the Monmouth Conservation Area and an Archaeologically Sensitive Area, is being put forward for a development of 20 apartments (six one-bed and fourteen two-bed), with provision for four affordable dwellings.

The clinic building was developed in the early 1970's, previously forming part of Monmouthshire Hospital, and was latterly used for health and welfare services, including a family planning clinic, podiatry, speech and language therapy and Social Services.

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken on the site in 2007 by the Cotswold Archaeological Society, as a substantial ditch, possibly part of the medieval town defences, runs through the area.
