Monmouth Town crashed out of the FAW cup with a heavy five-one defeat away at Welsh League Leaders Cambrian and Clydach last Saturday (1st October).

In fairness, the scoreline was not a true reflection of the tightly contested game, but the young Kingfishers will have learnt a lot and realise the difference between themselves and sides competing for a place in the Welsh Premier League.

Both sides entered the game high in confidence, having remained unbeaten and leading their respective league tables after two months of football.

The Town had to make changes to their backline yet again, with Davies out injured and recent signing Jacob Guy cup-tied.

Dan Spence returned to left back and the returning Ashley Ford was handed his first start of the season, filling in at right back.

The side from the second division started without any fear and looked to dominate possession from the start.

Smith looked to get on the ball and boss the centre of midfield with a mixture of short passing and probing balls out to the flanks.

The Town nearly took the lead when a Macdonald shot was deflected onto the post and as the ball fell back to him he fired over from close range.
