SIR,
Your article on Mother's Day is correct in saying that it originated in America, though wrong in saying it is celebrated in March. It is on 12th May.
10th March, the fourth Sunday in Lent, is Mothering Sunday.
'On Mothering Sunday, above all other,
Every child should dine with its mother.'
Traditionally, it was a day when children, mainly daughters, who had gone to work as domestic servants were given a day off to visit their mother and family taking a present of a cake.
Just occasionally you can find a card that gets it right.
