Assembly Member Nick Ramsay paid a visit to Mitchel Troy last Friday (7th February) to meet local residents who are unhappy about Monmouthshire Housing Association's plans to build affordable housing on land near their homes.
As reported in the Beacon last week (5th February), a development of eight affordable houses has been proposed for land to the west of Garthi Close.
Speaking about the plans, Mr Ramsay said:"I fully appreciate local residents' concerns about this proposed development which is a rural exception site and in my view not suitable for affordable housing.
"I'm contacting Monmouthshire County Council's Highways department about the narrow access road which I understand is already used as a "rat run" from Llanishen.
"I've also written to the planning department about the concerns that have been raised with me especially the slope of the site and the fact it is prone to become waterlogged.
"Local residents are understandably very unhappy about the lack of local consultation on the proposal to develop this site and hope that their concerns will be given serious consideration before any decision is made."
