Alex Stanley and Alison Beasley are forging ahead with the creation of a new radio station for Chepstow.

"We are in the early stages of development at the moment because currently we both have full time jobs. However, we are hoping to get the station up and running by the end of the year." says Alex, 35 from Chepstow.

Brainchild of Alex and Alison, the radio station will aim to serve the local community by having local DJ's discussion, local band promotion and will work closely with local business' to promote Chepstow and the surrounding area.

The station will start off only online (this not costing quite so much in licence fees and technology as the traditional broadcast medium).

"Once we are up and running and have proved ourselves as a viable station we will look for funding to become a more traditional station. In the mean time we are hoping to be supported in our digital capacity by local shops and Chepstolians themselves."

Radio Chepstow will concentrate on great music and promoting the area to tourists as well as providing local news and chat.

The pair are looking for funding to help furnish a new studio. "At the moment we have most of the equipment necessary but we are looking for government funding or an investor to help us get off the ground."

The station will ultimately be advertising funded, with the aim to give heavily discounted advertising rates to local business'.

The station is a display of the power of social media; Alex, who is a specialist in broadcast media, hooked up with Alison after seeing her tweets about wanting to start up a local radio station. The two got together and came up with the idea of Radio Chepstow.

"We have both worked in recording studios so we have the technical side sown up. To start with we will be producing a mixture of live and pre-recorded shows. We want this to be a real community radio so there will be a diverse range of music and chat."

Alex set up a similar project 12 years ago when the technology became available. "I started 'The Bristol Music Project' which was a great idea and really innovative at the time. Unfortunately there were hardly any listeners because so few people had broadband! Obviously this time 'round public technology has caught up with business and almost everyone can now listed to radio on their computers."

This time the project is bound to take off.

"What we don't have at the moment is a logo. We are currently running a competition asking people to design one for us. It will define the station so it has to be really good." says Alex
