SIR, Monmouth folk are incredibly generous with their time and personal resources when it comes to freely making their contributions to the enrichment and well being of society. The recent Monmouth Festival comes to mind. It therefore occurs to me that our county councillors might consider doing the same by foregoing their expenses, which can only be described as extremely generous. If they are truly motivated by the ideals of public service then by not claiming their stipends they will be making a significant positive contribution to the county's lamentable financial state. Just a thought. Mike Hallett (Monmouth)
