SIR,

As party leader of The Welsh Independent Party I was surprised to hear that another 1,500 houses could be built in Monmouth.

This will mean another 3,000 children or more, and 3,000 adults, not forgetting at least 3,000 cars.

Our party is against all these houses going up and we will do all in our power to stop these people being given planning.

The reason for all these houses in Monmouth is that Monmouth houses are still very expensive and everyone wants to come here.

That is why well-known companies want to build here and make big profits, whereas the Monmouth people cannot buy houses here because they cannot afford the prices. Some people in Monmouth are waiting five or six years for properties.

If these houses are built where are the children going to school? The schools in Monmouth won't be able to take over 3,000 children. What about doctors and dentists? We wait long enough now to see a doctor.

We have a new hospital but it does not have an A and E. Nevill Hall hospital in Abergavenny is closing down in the next few years and another hopsital being built in Cwmbran.

I have researched Monmouth and Monmouthshire for over eight years and have quite a few charters for Monmouth and one for Monmouthshire.

King Henry VI's Monmouth Charter details the town in every way possible. The town is supposed to be run by the town and borough council, not by a Welsh council, and it states 'all Englishmen of Monmouth can not be tried by a Welsh court'.

This charter is still in force like all other charters, if you can find them.

I have already spoken to the chief executive of Gwent Police about this charter, and our party is meeting with the commissioner and chief executive about this situation next month.

I had a meeting 16 months ago with Nick Ramsay AM, who promised he would look into this charter but, like everyone else, he didn't get back to me even after my six phone calls and two letters from the First Minister.

Finally, I tried to arrange a meeting with the chief executive of Monmouthshire County Council about the King Henry VI charter, again no reply.

As I have already said, our party fights for the rights of the people. We will be having a meeting shortly to discuss housing, NHS hospitals, Army benefits and a Job Centre in Monmouth.

The public meeting is at the Riverside Hotel on Tuesday 2nd July at 11am.
