SIR,
Wasn't it nice not only to see our heroes parade down Monnow Street last Friday (4th March), but also experience the freedom of walking around Agincourt Square and the high street without having to dodge the traffic.
There was no congestion on the dual carriageway and no sign of impatient motorist having to bypass the high street.
There were hundreds of people milling around and presumably they all found a place to park their cars.
How nice it would be if in Monnow Street we could have market stalls in the centre of the street at its widest point and it be like this everyday between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
Is this beyond our capability or are we so in love with the motor car that we have to allow it to destroy our town so visitors go elsewhere?
David Hoyle
(Monmouth)
