SIR,
Over the Bank Holiday period the A40 stretch from the Agincourt Roundabout to the Wye Bridge has once again shown it is not fit for purpose. There were 50 minute tailbacks due to the Monmouthshire Show traffic. How much longer before politicians get something done about this?
There are no electronic signs on the lead in from Ross on Wye to warn people of congestion. There are no diversions indicated (which would be limited) Having to head east down this stretch to the roundabout to go west on the A40 is also a system that does not work.
How many hours are being wasted? How much stress is this causing? How much police time being used up dealing with incidents? How many businesses are losing money because of this road?
At a time of public cuts how can the roads here be improved? A toll for lorries on this road may help or a toll for those who do not live within a set distance of the A40. There needs to be another bridge over the river here, and more electronic warning signs, more co-operation between those who maintain utility companies and others that need to work on this area. Something needs to be done for the sake of the town and those who drive past this area.
