SIR, St Bridget's Church at Skenfrith was built 500 years before Handel died, but we glorify his music today and it is still alive and well. How proud would he have been that his 'Messiah' was so exquisitely performed at this wonderful old church, to a record crowd. The brave and intriguing idea was conceived by Nelson Whaley and Vyvyan Brooks some months ago, proposed to Revd Dr Jean Prosser MBE and came to fruition on Friday 19th December. The magic atmosphere, engendered by dozens of flickering candles; the excellence of the musicians. choir and soloists under the baton of conductor Ian Russell, could not have been bettered. The applause was rapturous, well done. This special night will linger long in many memories. Diana W (Monmouth)
