Sir,
The Savoy Theatre gave us a real treat on Friday 1st July.
Josh Mills, tenor, Bethan Langford, Mezzo Soprano, and Adam Gilbert, baritone – all students at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama – performed an exciting, varied programme.
No doubt three singers with great futures, who had charisma and responded well to ecstatic applause from an audience in all age groups.
The accompanying pianist, David Doidge, was instrumental in bringing the degree of rarefied heights to the performances. Seldom have I seen such a motivating accompanist.
The Monmouth Montessori School Choir, under the inspired leadership of their founder Rosemary Whaley, was, as always, pure delight.
Young children nurtured to such heights of excellence continue to give pleasure.
Eleanor Hutchings (aged 15) attending Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls, singing and playing her own composition 'Just a little late', on her guitar, was exceptional.
A great future surely awaits this charming and talented young lady.
All performers gathered on stage for the final song before the interval.
After the interval, pianist Dominic LaFone-Ward (aged 10) played his own composition, 'The Universal Child', accompanied by the Monmouth Montessori School Choir.
With an exciting tempo, truly hauntingly beautiful melody sung so charmingly by the young singers of the choir, this was indeed a special time.
Congratulations to all the performers. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the people leaving the theatre, was confirmation that this was an unforgettable evening of entertainment.
Thanks also to all the staff at the Savoy Theatre.
Monmouth is so lucky to have this rare jewel of a theatre. Good luck for the future.
Diana Hardwick
