A MONMOUTH couple have celebrated their diamond wedding.
Last Saturday (10th April) marked 60 years to the day since Derek and Twinkle Jones were married at St Mary's Church in the town.
For most of that time Derek and Twinkle have lived in the Gardens with the view of the Kymin they love so much. They have one son, Owen, who is married and lives in Smethwick, in the West Midlands.
There was no need for the young Derek and Twinkle to be introduced as they are cousins. Derek has lived in Monmouth all his life, apart from his army service and Twinkle moved to the area at an early age.
Before her retirement, Twinkle taught at Overmonnow and Penallt. Derek meanwhile managed the family business on Monnow Street, which won the best dressed window competition on one occassion.
The couple are devoted members of St Mary's Church, and have both demonstrated their faith by serving the church in several capacities, Derek notably as sidesman, server, treasurer and even as captain of the bell ringers team.
