MADAM,

The shops in the Swan Court can hardly flourish if they are not allowed to advertise in Church Street and Priory Street.

The obvious way to advertise is by A boards, but these form an obstacle for the partially sighted. These cafes and shops form part of the character of Monmouth, and some solution must be found.

I know that the civic society and the town council have considered these matters, but can some solution not be found by wall signs at just above head-height, or by giving a regular position for the A-boards by painted base on the ground?

Perhaps one easy solution is for more of us to use the thoroughfare for our morning or lunch time refreshment, so that visitors are aware of people tracking through the passage. We can thus encourage local initiative and enhance our enjoyment of the town. Of course, the same thought would apply to the establishments behind the Shire Hall.
