MADAM,
I really just wanted to comment on two letters printed on 25th January.
The lady who wrote regarding the lack of a store for essentials (‘Stores needed for essentials’) struck a cord as my husband and I had just visited Abergavenny on Friday and enjoyed a day there but we commented to each other that Monmouth did lack stores like Wilko, Poundstretcher and others which sell items you cannot buy in Monmouth at reasonable prices.
Dare I say, having moved here in July last year that we also miss Tesco and travel to Chepstow when we have a dental appointment to bulk-buy at their lovely shop over there or have a day out in Abergavenny and do likewise. We do shop occasionally at Waitrose but find it extremely busy and pricey.
Regarding the litter, (‘Could you help hard-working litter group?’) we must have used the free carpark near the skatepark before those wonderful people who volunteer to litterpick arrived. We were appalled at the state of the area and it was upsetting to see such a beautiful area so abused especially as there are plenty of bins. I shall be offering my services to the litter group.
On a lighter note I would just like to add that as newcomers to Monmouth my husband and I love it here; lovely town, stunning countryside and friendly happy people. As we have moved from the east coast we took a gamble and it has certainly paid off!
