SIR, As chairman of Monmouth Town Council Planning Committee, I read with interest in last week's Beacon people's views and concerns about the proposed new Monmouth Comprehensive School, and demolition and rebuilding of the swimming pool. I would like to inform those that are interested that Monmouth Town Council Planning committee will hear a presentation concerning this at 6.45pm this coming Monday 21st July in the Council Chamber, Shire Hall, Monmouth. This meeting is open to the public and there will be an opportunity for members of the public to ask questions about the proposals and make the views/ concerns known to their elected members. At this stage Option Two looks likely to be the preferred option and it is this option that involves demolition and later rebuilding of the swimming pool. Following the consultation, the planning committee will await the submission of the actual planning application. It will then make its recommendation (either for or against with reasons) with MCC planning committee making the final decision sometime thereafter. At the planning committee meeting on the 21st, following the presentation and questions concerning the new Monmouth Comprehensive School the planning committee will consider a number of planning applications. This will include amongst others, the new skate park and pump track opposite the ambulance station alongside the Rockfield Road. Also on the agenda is the Gateway Project (land alongside the Cattle Market Car Park, Blestium Street, Monmouth) that includes a new public square, new toilets and café provision, enhancements to the riverside area and provision of car and coach parking. Members of the public have an opportunity to hear of the plans, ask questions and make their views known prior to councillors making their recommendation. Councillor Stuart Wilson (Monmouth)
