Redbrook Rovers completed a successful season in Division One of the North Gloucestershire League with a convincing 5-0 win at Blakeney. Redbrook went into the game as champions and, with the pressure off, were able to play free flowing football against very competitive opponents. Although having several good chances Redbrook were thwarted by some excellent goalkeeping until Ashley Lewis broke the deadlock shortly before halftime, riding several challenges before tapping the ball home. At the start of the second half Redbrook were fortunate when a Blakeney header scraped the outside of the post, but after this reprieve they took control of the game, with Phil Bennetto outstanding in midfield. Firstly Chris King netted after cutting in from the left, then further goals followed from Ian Drummond (2) and Matty Meredith to complete an excellent team performance. It is fitting that Redbrook should win a trophy in this their centenary year, which will be celebrated with a Dinner Dance at Redbrook on 28th June, 2008. The guest speaker will be Colin Addison former Hereford Utd player and manager. Anyone interested in attending should contact Martin Blake on 01600 713820.
