Bridges Community Centre officially opened its new reception area last Friday (6th May).

Outgoing Mayor of Monmouth Jeana Hall was there to cut the ribbon as her last public function in the role.

The area began renovation in 2010 when members of Bridges Youth Committee decided that the area needed work, labelling it "cluttered and confusing".

The group, made up of nine pupils from Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls, had worked together to raise £8,000 to start the work, which included a donation from GAVO.

The money got them halfway, and it was thought that the centre was going to have to work towards raising a similar amount again, until Principality offered to step in and help.

The work was completed in double-quick time by Principality's subsidiary company Property Solutions, with the reception area ready for launch in just two weeks.
