A PRISONER has gone on the run from HMP Prescoed.

Gwent Police is appealing for information to locate 55 year old George Smith, who absconded from the Usk prison yesterday (Wednesday 19th August).

George Smith is described as white, five feet eight inches tall, of medium build with brown hair. He has three tattoos on his forehead.

He was convicted of robbery in September 2013 and sentenced at Worcester Crown Court to six years.

Smith is not a registered sex offender but it’s believed there may be a potential risk of him being dangerous.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “Smith has connections in the Hereford area and Gwent Police has activated its operational plan with the aim of locating him, and the prison is co-operating fully with us.

“If anyone has seen George Smith or has any information about his whereabouts they are asked to ring 101 quoting log 209 19/8/15”.
