A NINETEEN-year-old who was killed in a serious road traffic collision last Wednesday has been described as a “conscientious and polite young man” by his former employer.

Ashley Thomas, from Usk, was named as the driver of a black Ford Fiesta which was involved in a single-vehicle collision on Mitchel Troy Road last Wednesday afternoon (27th December) at 12.50pm.

Mr Thomas was pronounced deceased at the scene, while a passenger, a 15-year-old girl, was taken to University Hospital Wales with minor injuries.

Gwent Police say specialist officers have been supporting Mr Thomas’ family.

Mr Thomas had worked as an apprentice with Raglan-based Land Rover specialist MDP Land Rovers for two years, and was still working with the firm at the time of the incident.

Owner of MDP Land Rovers Craig Stachera described Mr Thomas as a “genuine young person with attributes of an older man.

“He was never in a rush, when he started to drive he had a black box in his car and a dash cam,” Mr Stachera said. “He never went anywhere without his seatbelt.

“He was a conscientious and polite young man,” he added. “His manners were well above his age.”

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have any information relating to it is asked to call Gwent Police on 101, quoting log 264 27/12/2017.
