IN another busy weekend for SARA, the Land Search Team from Beachley was out all weekend helping Gloucestershire Police searching for a man reported missing.

They were called out on Friday lunchtime, and initially deployed in the Epney area south of Gloucester.

During the course of Saturday and Sunday a number of different areas were searched, on both sides of the River Severn. All of the SARA stations were involved, including boats from SARA Sharpness, along with the Coastguard and both the Police and Coastguard helicopters.

The missing person was eventually found on Sunday afternoon close to Newnham, treated by SARA medics and handed over to the Ambulance Service.

SARA Beachley Chairman Mervyn Fleming said “once again I was very proud of our team. Their perseverance and endurance this weekend was very much appreciated by the Police.”

SARA is entirely manned by volunteers who are on standby 24/7 all year.

SARA is not directly funded by any central or local Government agencies and depends completely on donations to fund its operations.
