A CEREMONY has taken place to award police officers, members of staff and members of the public for praiseworthy and notable acts.
The chief constable of Gwent Police hosted the Commendation Ceremony at Christchurch Centre, Newport on Wednesday 27th April.
PC Phillip Williams has been recognised for his actions in November 2014 when he arrested Timothy Jackson from Usk for the murder of his step-mother, Anne Jackson. PC Williams put the safety of others before his own and demonstrated great courage. The case resulted in Timothy Jackson pleading guilty to murder and receiving a lengthy prison sentence.
CSO Andy Jones was awarded with the Service Quality Award. Andy has been a CSO for the rural areas surrounding Chepstow for 11 years. Andy has been described by Gwent Police as having a positive impact in the wards he serves by raising awareness of relevant issues and being a constant source of support and reassurance.
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Ian Johnston, said: “Whether it is officers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty or members of the public who are willing to step up to help others in need, it’s important that we recognise the bravery and commitment of these special people who serve their community so well. I have been humbled by the ‘can do’ attitude of all of the recipients and I would like to congratulate them on their awards.”
