POLICE officers have been carrying out an operation in Osbaston aimed at tackling its spate of burglaries.
From Tuesday (8th December) and finishing yesterday (15th December) officers have been based at various points along Hereford Road stopping traffic and speaking to the drivers. They have also been using Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras (ANPR) which instantly checks vehicles against various databases of information. These include information provided by police officers, Crimestoppers, the DVLA and other police forces. It can identify vehicles that have previously been used to commit crime, people wanted on warrant and disqualified drivers.
During the operation, there were no burglaries reported in the Osbaston area. Officers have also gained information on criminality and residents throughout the area have been given crime prevention advice and the opportunity to receive a free crime prevention survey.
Inspector Huw Jones said: “We want to send a strong message to anyone intent on criminality in our communities that this will not be tolerated. More operations are planned for the future, so be warned, we will be waiting!”
