The Coastguard have recovered a canoe on the River Wye after receiving a call at 6.15pm on Tuesday, May 26 and are urgently trying to trace the owner to confirm they are safe.

It was found drifting below the Boat Inn at Chepstow just before the estuary but does not appear to be a commercial hire boat.

Paddle Cymru posted pictures of the boat which drew some observations

Some noticed that the amount of silt suggests it has been kept upright on the estuary for quite a while.

It still has the kayak paddle aboard which could indicate that no-one has fallen out, so it could have drifted off a mooring when not secured properly.

Keen canoers can see it has a sailing mast thwart at the right end of the canoe, but the mast foot (wooden block) fixed to the hull in a completely different place to the Mast thwart is a bit odd.

Paddle Cymru are urging if anyone recognises this canoe or have any information about who it might belong to, contact HM Coastguard immediately on 01646 690909.
