NATURAL Resources Wales has issued flood warnings for the River Wye for tonight and tomorrow morning and Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) has made preparations for possible road closures.

Warnings have been issued for the next two high tides which are expected to occur in Chepstow at 9.45pm on Wednesday, 1st March and 10am on Thursday, 2nd March.

The peak of the high tide is expected in Tintern at 10pm on 1st March and 10.20am on 2nd March.

MCC will be monitoring the situation and if needed will arrange for the A466 in Tintern to be closed from the Royal George junction to the Trelleck Road junction.

It is planning for the possibility of the A466 to be closed between 9.45pm and 10.15pm on 1st March and between 10am and 10.40am on 2nd of March.

Road closures will only be temporary and they will only be enforced when tidal water actually overflows onto the highway.

The road will reopen as soon as the water has receded from the highway.
