FIRE crews have been carrying out checks across the Forest of Dean this morning following multiple reports of smoke in the area.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service told The Beacon at approximately 10.39am today that crews were deployed to investigate the reports of smoke, but no fire has been confirmed in the Forest of Dean.

The service said it believes the smoke may be blowing across South Wales.

Residents across the Forest of Dean in Berry Hill and Coleford and surrounding areas, including parts of Monmouthshire have reported the smell of smoke and haze which has filled the sky.
