THE owner of a Raglan pub has called for the people who took two Christmas trees without payment to make amends.
Miguel Santiago, owner of the Beaufort in Raglan, was made aware of two Nordman trees which were taken from outside the pub last Thursday evening (7th December).
Mr Santiago has been selling trees from outside the premises for some time, raising money for the ongoing Raise the Roof appeal, for St Cadoc’s Church in the village.
But late on Thursday night, two trees, worth up to £35 each, were taken by two men in a blue Subaru without payment.
The incident was caught on CCTV and seen by a witness, who provided the vehicle’s number plate, but Mr Santiago has not yet contacted the police, instead hoping the two individuals will come forward.
“It is such a shame that people would be as desperate to take Christmas trees, especially when part of the proceeds go to charity,” Mr Santiago said.
“However if they wish to pop an envelope with the money through our postbox then they can feel free to do so. We understand there are hard times at this time of year, and I don’t mind people haggling for a Christmas tree if they feel they need to, but it’s a shame that certain individuals feel it right to take a tree without paying any money.”
Mr Santiago will continue to sell his trees from the Beaufort, raising money for the St Cadoc’s Church Raise the Roof appeal.
