A SUBSTANTIAL amount of cash was stolen from the ATM inside the Co-op store on Rockfield Road in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 8th November).

Offenders gained access to the store at around 4:10am by cutting open the roller doors, smashing the glass door and using a gas canister and tools to get inside of the ATM.

Police are now looking for four males in connection to the incident, they were seen in the area in a white BMW 1 Series.

The store was temporarily closed on Wednesday morning while police investigated but was reopened by the afternoon.

A Gwent Police spokesperson said: “At approximately 4:10am on Wednesday 8th November 2017 we received a report of a burglary at a commercial premise on Rockfield Road in Monmouth.

“During the offence a significant amount of damage was caused to the exterior of the building including a glass door being smashed and a roller shutter being cut open.

“The offenders then used what is believed to be a gas canister and tools to gain entry into a cash machine inside before making off with a substantial amount of cash.

“Officers would like to trace four males seen in the area in a white BMW 1 Series and ask anyone with information to please call 101 quoting log number 16 08/11/17.”

The Co-op also urged anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesperson for the Co-op, said: “Following the attack on the ATM, the store remained closed to allow for repairs to be carried out and for police to carry out their investigations, and we apologise to the community for any inconvenience.

“We appeal for anyone with information to come forward. The store has now reopened to serve the community.”
