THE Gwent and Powys Army Cadets experienced a different type of service last week as they joined forces with the the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

The cadets visited the Monmouth fire station and met with its firefighters to get a better understanding of what they do.

It was a hands on experience as the cadets, led by Monmouth Detachment Commander Eloise McCauley, were shown how to roll the high pressure hoses, how the jaws of life work in a car accident and the inner workings of the fire engines.

The cadets expressed their thanks to Fireman Sam Harding for inviting the force down for the day.
