BLESSED with glorious weather, this year’s Art in Penallt was the best year yet.
The event welcomed more than 500 visitors from near and far to view high-quality artwork from artists local to the area as well as from further afield.
At the preview event, praise was given to the exhibitors and the army of volunteers who contribute to making the event such a success, as well as to the generosity of Ros and Alastair Robertson who own the beautifully converted Capel Pentwyn, the venue for the exhibition.
Well-known Monmouth artist Richard Wills was confirmed as Patron in addition to Penallt-based potter, Walter Keeler. In his speech, Richard highlighted the contribution Art in Penallt makes to the local community and the arts, not least in light of recent cuts to arts funding and expressed how delighted he was to be working closely with such a vibrant team.
This year, as well as the main art exhibition, visitors enjoyed seeing additional work at the Inn at Penallt, art workshops and demonstrations, arts and crafts on Babington Meadow and local student artwork exhibited at Creates Gallery in Monmouth.
Over its nine years, Art in Penallt has showcased the work of well over 200 talented artists, and 2019 will be a celebration year as it reaches its milestone 10th birthday. This will be marked with an exciting change of venue, which will be confirmed in the New Year, and a move which is hoped will enable a greater number of high quality, original artworks to be exhibited.
This year’s contribution to charity will bring the total donated over the years to more than £6000 and this year’s donation will be in support of Babington Meadow and the Alzheimer’s Society. Follow all of Art in Penallt news online at
