A large development of up to 230 houses and a restaurant or hotel is proposed by Taylor Wimpey at its Mounton Road site.

Taylor Wimpey intends to submit an outline planning application early this summer.

The developer has promoted its site at Mounton Road, Chepstow, as an alternative strategic site in the Monmouthshire Local Development Plan, which is currently undergoing public hearings as part of the planning inspector's examination process.

There will be a public exhibition of the plans at Chepstow's Palmer Community Centre, Cormeilles Square, High Street, next Tuesday (21st May) from 2.30pm to 8pm.

The event will enable residents to view the plans and give feedback on the proposals. Taylor Wimpey and members of the professional team will be present to discuss the proposals and answer any questions.

"We want to make sure that we understand the views of local people in Chepstow, so we are organising a public exhibition to present our proposals and receive feedback," said a spokesperson for the company.

"We will review these comments and where possible use them to help shape our final plans."

The site is located at the western edge of Chepstow, with residential development proposed to cover about six hectares of pasture land.

A further 6.82 hectares of land will be public open space and non-developed land.

The A466 Wye Valley Link Road is along the eastern boundary with Mounton Road to the north.

The current design is based on providing family housing, including on-plot parking where possible and large gardens.

The proposals also include a proportion of affordable housing.

Principal access is likely to be from the A466, with a secondary access in the south to serve the hotel/ restaurant.

Taylor Wimpey has entered into an option agreement on the Mounton Road site (a legal contract to purchase the site upon planning consent).

The Taylor Wimpey spokesperson added: "We feel that this site is well located, with good transport links.

"It would be well-integrated and will contribute to the local community, providing some much needed family housing. The site will also contribute to the local tourism and offer economy through the inclusion of a hotel and restaurant."

The site will take about 18 months to two years to complete, should the site receive planning consent.
