Usk Show enjoyed a fantastic day of sunshine again on Saturday 14th September.
Attendance figures are still to be confirmed but estimates put the total at around 20,000 visitors.
The heavy rain of Friday night did little to dampen people's enthusiasm and showground stewards worked hard in the early morning to spread bark in any wet areas.
The continued policy of a car-free main ring allowed the public to enjoy a full programme of events in the arena, including In-hand Cobs, Side Saddle and Working Hunter horse competitions during the morning, followed by the Curre and Llangibby Hunt, the Grand Parade of Livestock and Horses and Pony Club Mounted Games (this year won by Llangibby), during the afternoon.
New attractions for the rings this year were The Joseph Peace Fire Stunt Show and The Welsh Axemen who both attracted large crowds.
The show closed with two hot air balloons, piloted by Neil Edmonds and Hugh Stewart and crews, being inflated and tethered rather than flying due to strong winds. This provided an excellent opportunity for visitors to go and see them up close in the ring and even take a short ride to the end of the tether.
• Sometime between 4pm on Friday 13th September and 7.30am on Saturday 14th September, over £5,000 worth of horse tack was stolen from Caldicot Saddlery at Usk Show.
Reported stolen were eight Ascott leather head collars, 40 Chantilley/ Castle Martin gales, 20 Cottage Craft/ Shires bandage sets; 12 Chantilley breast plates, 19 Castle flash nose bands; 15 plastic irons/ stirrups, steel cheese grates and all colour treads.
Also taken were 20 Chantilley/ Avignon bridles, 6 KM Elite/ Stevens equestrian sheepskin saddle pads, six KM Elite/ Stevens equestrian saddle cloths and 10 Cottage Craft sheepskin nose bands.
