An Usk farmer is one of the many members of the UK community to be recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

David Morgan DL of Trostrey Court, was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to agriculture and for voluntary service to the agricultural community in Monmouthshire.

This year David is president of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society and Monmouthshire is the feature county.

It was early May, in the run up to the general

election, when he received the letter confirming the award.

"Nancy opens the post and it said on the top 'from the Prime Minister, David Cameron' so we initially dismissed it as an electioneering pamphlet," said David, "I looked at it after and realised it was something different!"

Through sheer hard work, determination and the enormous help of his mother and Lloyds Bank his father bought Trostrey Court when David was six years old, but died three years later. His mother rented out the farm for a number of years, David took it on in 1961.

In 1965 he began the building company 'Morgan's of Usk' in the workshop at Trostrey Court and there are few farms in the area that do not bear the sign proclaiming the shed was erected by the Usk company.

The business moved to an industrial unit in Usk in 1973 and are now preparing to move again as they have just bought a site at New Inn, although they may keep some capacity in Usk.

"We are all industrial now," said David "and have been for the last five years; that side has grown and grown."

They recently held an open farm day at Trostrey Court to raise money for the local churches.

David and Nancy have three children; Peter, the eldest son works in property development, Andrew the youngest, runs 'Morgan's of Usk' and Sue is the farmer.

Caroline (pictured)?began her career with the Metropolitan Police in 1987 before joining Avon and Somerset police in 2003.

She said: "I am absolutely thrilled and genuinely taken aback and am immensely proud to receive the award.

"I would like to thank my husband and family for all their support throughout my career - I could not have done it without them.

"Policing is a fantastic career and I feel so privileged to work with some great people."

Caroline is married with three daughters.

Temporary Chief Constable John Long said:  "We are thrilled that Caroline's dedication has been rewarded with an MBE.

"Caroline's leadership has been instrumental in several high profile and major incidents – most notably the Somerset Floods in 2014 when she worked tirelessly, day and night, to ensure that the policing operation and our partner agencies were meeting the unprecedented demands placed upon us in the service of the public, who are always at the forefront of Caroline's thinking.

"Caroline is an exemplary officer who leads from the front and has shown unwavering commitment to public service and the communities she has served since she started her policing career in 1987."
