Leisure League season comes to an end

THE final race of the 2016/2017 Gwent Leisure Centre League series took place at Cwmbran on Tuesday 1st August. More than 550 runners took part in the race, including a team of 28 Spirit of Monmouth runners. 

Rob Nicholls was the first runner to finish for the club. Leanne Meek was the first lady across the line for the club, placing fifth in her age category.

Across the five races in the Road Race Series, Spirit of Monmouth ladies’ team placed fifth overall. In their age categories, Leanne Meek placed sixth overall and Emma King eighth. Jane Beresford and Diane Smith both achieved third place in their respective age categories.

The men’s team placed eighth overall. Brian Evans was eighth, Allan Meek second and Russell Finch third in their categories. John Jenkins was the winner in his age category.

For the series as a whole, including the five winter cross-country races, the ladies also placed fifth and the men eighth - some of the best results for the club to date.

The Gwent Leisure Centre League is a series of races of around four to six miles in distance, which take place every year across Gwent. The races are free to enter, for all running abilities and are open to members of participating running clubs.
