AN EVENT at Monmouthshire County Hall marked Armed Forces Day this week.
Armed Forces Day is an annual event, held this year tomorrow (Saturday 24th June), which shows support for the Armed Forces community from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.
The celebrations began on Monday (19th June) when the Armed Forces Day flag was raised on a number of buildings and famous landmarks around the country.
A ‘Fly a flag for our Armed Forces’ event took place at the home of Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) in Usk, with a number of individuals attending the ceremony in the sunshine.
Leader of MCC Councillor Peter Fox and the chairman, Cllr Maureen Powell, addressed the gathering, with prayers from the chairman’s chaplain. The event was also attended by a number of senior councillors and Monmouth Assembly Member Nick Ramsay.
The ceremony was followed by refreshments in the Chairman’s Room.
Speaking after the event, Mr Ramsay said: “I was delighted to witness the raising of the commemorative Armed Forces Day flag and to take part in this heartfelt tribute to all those who serve or have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.
“They risk their lives on a daily basis to make this country more secure and we owe them an enormous debt of gratitude.”
