Dual carriageway closed for hours after car hits pedestrian

By Desmond Pugh in Emergency Services

A SERIOUS incident involving a car and a pedestrian closed the A40 near Raglan for a number of hours on Sunday (14th May).

It has been reported locally that a man was seen crossing the dual carriageway from the southbound services, narrowly missing swerving traffic, before being struck by the blue Ford Fiesta on the northbound carriageway.

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 11am. An air ambulance landed on the northbound carriageway as officers from the ambulance service attended the collision.

The pedestrian was then taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary with serious injuries and is in a stable but critical condition.

Traffic was diverted at the Raglan interchange through Monmouth which caused further traffic problems on Sunday afternoon.
