ON Thursday 6th April, during a break in rehearsals for its annual concert, the Caldicot Male Voice Choir was visited by long-standing chorister Roy Jones.
His visit enabled musical director Sian Hatton and choir chairman Mark Stocker to make a well deserved presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award certificate and confer an Honorary Vice-presidency on Roy in front of the whole choir.
The choir members showed their appreciation giving Mr Jones a standing ovation as a further tribute to his service.
Mr Jones’ 40 years continuous membership showed his dedication, loyalty and unbounded enthusiasm for the choir.
Also, as a natural Welsh speaker, Mr Jones has played an important role in helping the choir with ensuring their Welsh diction and pronunciation is up to a very high standard.
Mr Jones has unfortunately been ill recently preventing him from singing but he hopes to rejoin the choir soon.
Mr Jones said: “I really didn’t expect this, it’s such an honour and I am determined to get back to singing with you soon.”
Another highlight of the choir’s recent activities has been its fundraising. At the end of March the choir presented a cheque for a donation of £5,245 for the Cardiff Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
This significant do-nation was collected through the choir’s usual concert fund-raising plus a number of cycling and gold events.
